Thanks very much to Lorraine, PhoeC and Anemone over on EE who gave me a LOT of help with this.
FAQ part 1 – Basic RPGing
What is an RPG?
An rpg is a role playing game in which people take control of their own personal characters, and "live their lives". It is like a story written by lots of writers instead of one, and can be loads of fun.
RPG stands for role playing game. It's when you assume the role of a character (usually an original one you make up) in a world were every other character is also playing a role. You then act out your role in situations around it. There are also NPCs (non-player-characters) in RPGS, these are usually characters created by Staff for the sole purpose of helping out stories.
What is Celestial Empires?
Celestial Empires is a fantasy based Role Playing Game.
I’m new to rpging how should I do it?
Your rpg posts should be written in…
Third person – Point Of View is rather important to keep in mind when role-playing. All role plays are expected to be in third person POV. Third person POV means that it is written from outside the character's perspective but you can still describe what the character is doing / looks like as well as what they are thinking. Please try to steer clear of using first person POV.
Wrong way: I walked into the room, “Hi” I said.
Right way: Btd walked into the room. “Hi.” she said.
Past tense – this is the most common tense used in writing and the easiest to read.
Wrong Way: Btd jumps up to get the fruit
Right way: Btd jumped up so she could get the fruit
When a character speaks it should be in speech marks.
Wrong Way: Btd walked up to Kisai. Btd:Hello
Right way: Btd walked up to Kisai. "Hello." She said
Your posts should read like a story, if they don’t please edit them so that they do.
Just remember; You may know what's going on inside the heads of other characters from reading the posts but your character does not.
Also remember that when you role play you're going to be interacting with other RPers, so give them something to respond to as well!
